A Glimpse Into Our Process …

  • 1. Project Kickoff & Data Intake

After a discovery call and consultation, and upon the signing of our contract, we’ll book a project kick-off. This is our data intake and client interview meeting. During this phase, we’ll dig into your project goals, functional needs, and discuss all aspects of the project. We’ll review and discuss inspiration images you’ve been hanging on to and will start to assemble the design principles used to guide our design decisions. During this phase, we'll also get caught up to speed with all aspects related to the build or renovation by starting the onboarding process with the existing team. In cases where our studio will take the lead on the project, we'll lay out the groundwork and build a trusted team to execute the vision.

  • 2. Design Concepts & Style Profile

During this phase, our team will develop furnishing plans and solidify the design vision by preparing a mood board. We'll select an array of preliminary materials that align with the overall project vision to obtain your reactions and feedback. During the Design Concepts meeting, we aim to complete two things; (1) Nail the functional needs of the project via the furnishings plans and other drawings as needed. (2) Discuss and solidify the overall design vision by reviewing the mood boards and preliminary materials. We aim to determine our design “North Stars” or principles unique to your vision… These principles will guide all of our decisions during the selection process to ensure we stay true to your vision.

  • 3. Finish Selections & Project Management

On large renovations and new build projects, our next phase consists of designing the "shell" of each space. We'll work on fixture selections for categories such as plumbing, tile and electrical. Finish selections and comprehensive millwork designs are prepared as needed. Spaces are designed with a clear intent in mind, ensuring the vision and future layers are carefully considered during the selection process. Our team will hand pick , document and communicate all selections to the build team via design drawings, renderings and material schedules. Forethought is given to each selection, ensuring it meets the project timeline and allowance goals. Regular site visits and open lines of communication ensure accuracy and clarity.

  • 4. Design Plan & Furnishings Selections

  • 5. Procurement & Implementation

We’ll engage the necessary workrooms or tradespeople to expertly bring all our visions to life. All furnishings and soft goods are received, inspected and collected at our warehouse partners until a set installation date. FAQS

How involved do I need to be?

The best designs evolve from a collaborative process between the client and the designer. Through a series of in-person meetings and a robust questionnaire, we’ll delve into your design wants and needs to create a space that’s curated just for you.

What is your refund policy?

A wonderful benefit of working with a designer is access to vendors that work exclusively with trade partners. Custom and non-custom orders with our trade partners and workrooms are non-refundable. For retail items, we will do our best to remedy any issues on a case-by-case basic. Please note that if any items arrive damaged or incorrect, Studio Borges will work with our vendors to have your pieces repaired or replaced.

What’s your preferred method of communication?

Studio Borges recommends primary communication via email. Email allows us to track our communication and agreements. Our team is not always in front of our computers so please allow one business day to respond to your correspondence.

If there are any emergencies we will communicate via phone or text. We kindly request keeping phone and text correspondence between the hours of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday.

Do I need to find my own tradespeople?

Not necessarily! We’re happy to collaborate with a team you’ve previously selected, but are also able to recommend skilled contractors, tradespeople, and architects as needed.

How often do you bill?

We bill our team’s hours at the end of every month. Payment for goods (less freight) and services are billed on an ad hoc basis and due before ordering. Freight costs for furniture and fabrics are often not provided by trade vendors and calculated once items have shipped. We estimate these costs in your initial budget (typically 18-20%) but freight costs are billed separately once actualized

Do you offer drawings?

Yes! The first and most important step in our design process is space planning. Our presentations will include drawings, elevations and some times 3d models to help visualize your designs.
